Inaugural Session

To inaugurate the 49th Alcine, we are presenting two very special premieres as a representation of the best of the festival.
The best European cinema backed by the Greek filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos, who after masterpieces such as ‘Dogtooth’, ‘The Lobster’ and the award-winning ‘The Favourite’ decided to return to short film to make a thriller replete with double meanings that will not disappoint fans of his distilled, absurd and disturbing style.
And from Spain a film close to home although it comes from afar. After surprising us and being lauded by the critics at festivals such as Sitges, Nocturna and the Fantastic Fest, Austin, the Ojo Mecánico, who have for years been responsible for the Zero Budget workshops at ALCINE, are premiering their first feature film in Alcalá. The spectacular physical work of the iconic actor Javier Botet (‘It’, ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘REC’…) and an astonishing turn from David Pareja (‘Matar a Dios’, ‘Mambo’…) combine in the debut work of Óscar Martín; a terrifying melange of black comedy and suspense about two friends and their toxic relationship. In their own words ‘Like ‘Untouchable’ but with sons-of-bitches’.
